0News that HP have slashed the prices of their ‘to be discontinued’ HP Touchpad have lit up sales across the USA and Canada as ‘Best Buy’ has a fire sale.
Prices drop from $499 to only $99 for the 16 Gb model, and from $599 to only $149 for the 32Gb version.
Needless to say, they sold out rather quickly as word got round!
Just this morning I received an alert from Google to confirm that ‘Harvey Norman’ the sole distributor in Australia has started their fire sale at price points similar to the USA.
I can’t wait for this to start in the UK, currently website retailers are still advertising the Touchpad for ‘pre-sale’ prices at the likes of Amazon, Tesco, PC World and Curry’s.
Think I may just pop down to PC World this morning, just in case…

PRINCE2
0This week I attended a one day introduction to PRINCE2 the world renown project management methodology.
I’d seen it mentioned in many job adverts as soon as project management was mentioned, but even though I’ve been ‘managing’ projects for many years now, I’d never come accross it being used!
PRINCE stands for PRojects IN a Controlled Environment, and I guess the ’2′ means it’s been updated.
Well the course had been arranged by Business Link North East using European funding, so it cost my only my time to attend, and the use of my grey matter to digest the content.
Well their are 7 processes, a number of supporting ‘themes’ and a raft of underpinning principles. I like to create pictures to handle complex relationships, and they help me retain and understand what’s going on.
Go and take a look at Mike Spain’s PRINCE2 Tube Map and see for yourself what this stuff is all about!
I know i’ts dounting to look at that, but believe me, after my 1 day introduction I just about understand it!!!
For the future, if I wish to go further I’d need to take a 3 day Foundation course and exam, then a 2 day course and exam for the Practitioner Level, this will knock me back best part of a grand.
Is it really going to be worth it?
Training is a continuous process
I look after a client who is approved to the aerospace quality management standard AS9100 revB.
I’ve been up to speed on the ‘revB’ for some time now, but it’s all changing!
AS9100 revC is out and we’ve to get ready for an assessment in March 2011 to this new version.
In fact the standard has been out and ‘live’ for some time now, but it’s taken a while for the certification auditors to be re-trained, or should I say, ‘trained’ in the modified and renewed requirements.
What this means to me is that I need to get myself ‘trained’ ASAP so that I can advise and assist my client with the transition or upgrade, ensure we have implemented it properly by carrying out internal audits, and all of this before assessment in March next year. I know it’s not going to be cheap either.
I’d better get a move on!
