Volunteering
For the greater part of this year I’ve been registered with iT4Communities as a volunteer.
My motivation was to get more involved in charities and not for profit organisations as I believe they may not be using IT to maximise the benefit to their organisations.
I’ve subscribed to their RSS feed to see what kind of opportunities were out there, (see below), or more to the point, what kind of mess these organisations were in!
Well I wasn’t dissappointed with my assertion, it appears that many of them are struggling with the IT applications rather than being able to stand back and take a view on their business needs rather than trying to muddle through with what they’ve got already.
I think I’ve just identified my ‘niche’ – you see, as a business improvement consultant for over 16 years, and being involved in projects of all descriptions, (many of which I’d never done before), I find myself in the position of being able to fit in between the business and their needs, and the technologies out there that could help them get better at what they do.
All I need now is to get some funding to let me offer my expertise to charities and not for profits, and I’d be able to help full time, and not just now and again.
Here is the RSS feed mentioned above, why not register yourself if you’ve the skills?
